From a young age, I discovered that repetition was key to my learning. Unlike auditory learners, I excelled visually. To prepare for exams, I would quiz myself and rewrite lecture notes in color, which helped me remember better. When it came time to recall information during a test, I could mentally visualize the page and the ink color of the notes.
Writing quickly became second nature to me. I made to-do lists, jotted down reminders, labeled things, and essentially programmed myself to write everything down. When my kids came along, my calendar was filled with notes rather than scrapbook entries.
My first job was tutoring, and I enjoyed creating homework worksheets for my students. Years later, I utilized the same process with my first Facebook group focused on supplementing education at home. Phonics and counting worksheets quickly evolved into simple writing lessons.
Food allergies also became dear to my heart. My youngest was severely anemic as a baby, which led to several tests and a diagnosis requiring food restrictions. With support from friends and a bit of research, I learned more ways to make food-sensitive snacks and began advocating for our youth. During such research, I came across a blog on paleo recipes by Ashley. Not only did she share yummy recipes, but she also encouraged blogging.
As my youngest child approached kindergarten, I started following information on food allergies and school advocacy. I connected with more people and communicated on social media, shifting my writing towards advocating for kids with food allergies. Ashley’s encouragement to blog tempted me to dig further, and that is how the seeds of Chaotic Sanity were planted.
