I am excited for the new school year

Welcoming staff, friend reunions, and senior year

Not so much for homework tantrums, school lunches, and carline.

I will miss the staycation and impromptu dine outs

From the lake dives with Minnesotan crew to karaoke laughs

From the midday breakfast requests to friends’ hangouts

From the pool dips to ice pops

From the long drives to squash courts to the wedding shenanigans

From the basketball hoops to wickets in cricket

From Xylo’s spit showers to Nala’s rolls on hot driveways

From summer BBQ to the generous Eidis

From the family game nights to competitive cries

From labeling school supplies to wardrobe updo

.

Not so much of mouth spills or sibling rivalry

Nor the sweaty armpits and exhausting hot days

No care for towel loads and zillion pool toys.

Neither the binge video gaming nor the nagging

Say no to 24/7 hot meals and dirty kitchens

And overpouring of snack wrappers

.

Nevertheless, they were memories with you

and so much more

And that’s what summer 2023 was all about.
