Challenging myself to new bars, but not limiting myself to fit a frame.

To build a habit, you have to consciously put effort. Force yourself to do a little every day till it becomes a part of your routine. Keep working and it will become a habit.

The work you put in will correlate with the output you end up with.

Many said that to find success in writing, consistency is the key. You schedule the time to write every day, regardless of how small or big a piece is.  Time will not magically appear, you have to find the time and block it for writing or anything else you enjoy.  By keeping a steady pace, you will slowly gain followers and monetary success.

To build consistency, many engage in a challenge to motivate themselves to engage in an activity. Similarly, many have participated in a writing challenge to combat writer’s block and build that habit.

Individual vs Group Challenges

Recently, I came across quite a few articles on Medium talking about participating in a writing challenge, but I think it is a personal competition, rather than a chain of writers motivating each other.

On Threads, many are looking for a writing group to write everyday. I think it is similar to going to the gym or a run with a partner, where each person holds the other accountable.

The problem is when you don’t find a partner with the same enthusiasm, a fire to achieve something deeper. Therefore, I am inclining towards an individual 30-day writing challenge to hold myself accountable. I would be equally happy if I accomplished 50 stories before the end of 2023 so maybe a 30 day challenge will keep me on a steady track.

What do I hope to accomplish?

I am hoping to become a better blogger, with a bigger audience. More importantly, I am looking for inspiration to write a book, a memoir or short non-fiction — a paper publication.

I want to overcome a hurdle that a story has to be a certain length. I should be able to write regardless of whatever word count it ends up being.

No niche, no problem. Why restrict yourself to a particular theme? Why not enter a challenge with an open mind to see where it takes you? I want to see what else I can discover about myself?

No one writes or posts on a public platform and does not desire a pat on the back. I would like to build my name so I can establish a writing community where we support each other and enjoy reading each other’s work.

.

Let’s start!

  • I am going to commit to this challenge, knowing that I may not be able to write a story per day for 30 days, and that is okay, as long as I get 50 stories by Dec 31, 2023.
  • In similar spirit, I plan to post a highlight from the day on social media to build the blog subscriptions.
  • I will write small and long pieces depending on whatever inspires me that day. I will not restrict my writing to any niche or word count.
  • I hope to build a writing habit that will help me build a name as a published author one day. Equally, I want to be a consistent content creator to gain support for my blog.
  • I will be open-minded and welcome any new self-discoveries; and share those insights on social media.

Wish me luck
