We have crossed continents and oceans
To a place we have never imagined
Curiosity to meet the new world
Anxiousness to what we have left behind
.
With strength of a storm
And weight of a mountain
We say our goodbyes
And pack our life in small boxes
.
In hopes for a greater life
We work day and night
Adapting to new culture
Holding on to old traditions
.
We give our knowledge, sweat, and humanity
For the position we have clearly earned
Nevertheless, we are questioned every day,
Leaving us undermined
.
While many find comfort bridging the two lands
Some say the new nation feels home
And some are lost on a deserted island
The emptiness haunts us every day
.
Regardless, we wake up stronger
In hopes to give our children something more
The drive fuels us every day
And someday we won’t doubt why we left our homeland
