Tiny Writing Nook is now Transformed!

Recently, I did something out of my comfort zone. I have been talking about self-care and writing a book on my social media and blog for so long that I been wanting to update my closest friends in person. However, I dreaded a “party”. I didn’t want the emphasis to be on the food because then I am just hosting a dinner and not leaving time to have a productive conversation. So, when the opportunity arose, I took full advantage of it.

My husband informed me that he will be out for the weekend, which meant a green light to host a girls’ night with tea and snacks. I invited a handful of closet friends, ladies who I knew would support self-journey and discovering new self-care rituals. We socialized over tea and then I started the conversation on perhaps writing a book on finding an identity beyond us being a mother and a wife. Great ideas came along, and we were all supportive of each other’s personal self-care rituals.

During the conversation, I thanked a dear friend who had encouraged me to invest in my crafting hobby years ago. When the ladies began heading home, she whispered that she would like to see all the gadgets I had purchased since our first conversation on owning our hobbies and creating time for them. I took her upstairs and showed her my sanity closet. It is tiny but has enough shelves to hold it all, for now at least. She immediately suggested that I claim the game room across the hall. My hesitation has been that it was the kids place to play video games and board games. “You need to have a desk over there and be next to your kids; you will be with your kids and have a “place “office” of your own.” My face glowed, I am sure.

It has been a hassle to take out a tool or a machine and bring it to the game room, and then clean up after wards. It would be nice if I had all my stuff in the one room. Since then, I have emptied the built-in cabinets and moved my crafting tools, sketch pads, stationary out of the tiny closet. [They tiny closet is ample for puzzles and board games].

The first purchase for this “office” space was a writing desk. I have spent countless amount of time sitting on the floor, creating stories and vinyl stickers. It was time to properly furnish the tiny space behind the couches.

It is tiny but it’s mine.

Original creative nook …

transformed into a proper space:

(1) I took my son’s old computer chair and plopped on a seat cover* from Amazon. Doesn’t it look chic?

(2) After reading few Amazon reviews and sizing my space, I ordered a small writing table*.

[* both links are an Amazon Affiliate links and your purchase will earn me a small commission.]

And in no time, I had a space to put a Surface Tablet and start typing new stories. Wasting no time, I settled in my office space and plopped open a blank document, ready to type. The inspiration for new stories comes from everything around us. I usually scroll through the phone first for the pictures and notes I have saved when I thought I could use them as a new blog post. Sometimes, I can write my social media stories in more depth or use social interactions to generate new ideas.

As I look through my phone, I wonder …

Would my words collaborate today?

How powerful would they be?
Would they matter to someone other than me?
Would they uplift my soul … my quest to take my creativity to people and share with the world?

Some days are good, and some mornings I struggle, but I must acknowledge the progress I made today.

No one can take my words, they are mine [and that is power]. If they vanish, I would be lost and hurt between these four white walls.
